The Ngaruawahia Bypass will cross the Waikato River approximately 400 metres upstream of the existing Horotiu Bridge on a 125m long by 16m wide bridge. The design of this bridge ensures that the bridge piers are located on the riverbanks clear of the Waikato River waterway, except in times of flood. The soffit level will also provide navigation clearance and freeboard under maximum flow conditions from the Karapiro Dam. The bridge will span 142m span and construction is made up of 3.2m deep girders weighing in at over 650 tonnes. The specialist shop drawings and render shown above was prepared by Steel Pencil.
